Are you ready for big hair, badminton and bows? Groovy ’70s-themed weddings and grandfatherly fashions? Kitschy kitchens and jellyfish? Today, Pinterest is releasing its annual trend report, Pinterest Predicts, harnessing the power of Pinterest’s predictive trend data to give consumers and advertisers a head start on what we believe will be the biggest and hottest trends for 2024.

Pinterest’s unique trendspotting model is a blend of art and science that analyses the billions of searches made by more than 480 million people from around the world that come to Pinterest each month to plan what to do, try or buy next.1 New machine learning technologies allow us to identify patterns in the data and curate those findings into the Pinterest Predicts report, a genuine ‘cheat sheet’ for everyone who needs to know, before anybody else, what we predict is going to take off and continue to grow in 2024.

Shop 2024 trends on Pinterest: "Be Jelly"

From the team that saw the 2023 Mush-rooms trend and the 2022 Dopamine dressing era coming, and with an 80% success rate for the fourth year in a row,2 Pinterest Predicts has proven itself to be the reliable trend-spotter that consumers and advertisers can trust.

The mindset of the Pinterest audience really is the secret sauce: because people come to Pinterest to plan, we have unique insight into what’s going to be the next big thing. More than half of our users see Pinterest as a place to shop,3 and this year, Pinterest is making Pinterest Predicts more shoppable than ever: consumers from around the world can shop trends through an online store—the Pinterest Predicts Shop. On top of that, Pinterest is opening its first ever pop-up shop in New York City, a five-day event where customers can shop and experience the biggest trends of 2024.

Today’s report predicts 23 trends for 2024 across fashion, beauty, home décor, entertainment, travel, parenting and more.

Eclectic Grandpa: An industry often defined by the ‘new’ and ‘young’—fashion—will soon be home to an archetype as old as it is expressive and eccentric: grandfathers. Think retro streetwear, chic cardigans and customised clothing as Gen Z and Boomers lead the growth in searches for ‘grandad style’, as well as ‘eclectic clothing style’ and ‘retro streetwear’.

Be Jelly: You heard it here first: from home décor to couture to beauty ideas, in 2024, our muse will be a very squishy invertebrate—jellyfish. Gen Z and Millennials are driving this trend, searching for ‘jellyfish lamp’, ‘jellyfish hat’ and even ‘jellyfish haircut’.

Kitschens: Next year, Gen X and Boomers will elevate their kitchen designs and cooking areas with thrifted finds, vintage appliances and eye-dazzling colours such as retro pink. Out: traditional farmhouse kitchens. In: kitschy kitchens.

Cafécore: The coffee shop vibe is coming home. Searching heavily for terms such as ‘café chalkboard’ and ‘coffee station décor’, people are creating a full café experience where they live.

Make It Big: Beauty and baubles will get bigger, bolder and puffier in 2024. Millennial and Gen Z shoppers will favour oversized opulence, shopping for styles that match their fluffy hair aesthetic.

Blue Beauty: Aquamarine make-up is back, and it’s bolder and brighter than ever. In 2024, Gen Z and Millennials will search for ‘blue glam make-up’ and ‘pastel blue eyeshadow’ as they find ways to incorporate this 60s staple into their modern beauty routines. The best part? This blue hue looks striking on everyone.

Bow Stacking: Millennials and Gen Z will embrace the art of ‘bow stacking’ in 2024, as they adorn their outfits, shoes, hair and jewellery with this delicate detail. Searches are rising for ‘bow outfit’, ‘bow necklace’, ‘heels with bows’ and more.

Making a Racket: Move over, tennis. Gen Z and Millennials will be smitten with badminton in the new year. Searches for everything from ‘badminton outfit’ to ‘playing badminton’ are on the rise.

Groovy Nuptials: Next year, 70s-inspired weddings will make their comeback, with disco décor and hippy hen dos making marriage retro.

Tropic Like It’s Hot: With searches on the rise for terms such as ‘pineapple mocktails’ and ‘coconut aesthetic’, it’s safe to predict a rush on tropical-themed drinks, home décor and fashion.

Head to Glow: The focus on facial care is shifting to the entire body as Boomers and Gen Z double down on luxury lotions, in-home spa experiences and some serious SPF sunscreen. Searches for ‘body skin care routine’ are up by a jaw-dropping 1,025%.

Inchstones: Parents are celebrating their little ones’ tiny triumphs, seeking small-moment memories via search terms such as ‘monthly milestone ideas’ as well as ‘potty training rewards ideas’ and ‘my first tooth party’.

Expect to see Gen Z and Boomers DIY in style with sultry touches, such as dark fringes and even darker paint.

Jazz Revival: We’re stepping into a new jazz era in 2024 with this trend being driven by Millennials and Gen Z, who will trade in their electronic beats for something far more retro, beyond funk playlists: jazz-inspired outfits, dimly lit venues and lo-fi looks are all on the rise.

Aquatecture: This trend will go well beyond your average fish tank, with Gen Xers and Millennials set to become underwater gardeners next year. They will go all in on ‘small aquarium designs’ and over-the-top ‘turtle terrariums’.

Knockout Workouts: Historically, we’ve reported on trends that are more in the lower-intensity space—but in 2024, high intensity is back, and is packing a punch. Millennials and Gen Z will go all-in on combat sports such as karate, kickboxing and jiu jitsu for their daily dose of ‘me’ time, making them feel stronger, calmer and powerful, with searches for ‘shadow boxing workouts’, ‘jiu jitsu’ and ‘karate kumite’ on the rise.

Cute Coins: ‘Credit card stickers’, ‘teddy bank’ or ‘aesthetic piggy bank’ In 2024, Gen Z and Millennials will take their money and make it cuter. Credit cards will get a makeover. Piggy banks will be customised.

Dirt Flirts: Next year, Boomers and Gen X will load up their 4x4s and make for the mountains—or at least look like they are. ‘Off-road camping’, ‘off-road car’, ‘off-road wheels’… These rising search terms say it all: things will get adventurous in 2024.
