Today, Pinterest is announcing two new features to its popular collages tool:
Collage remixing which lets users collaborate, build on and use existing collages as a starting point for their own creativity.
Collage sharing which makes it easier to download and share collages in video format on other social media platforms.
Now over half a billion Pinterest users1 around the world can get even more creative with their collages through remixing and sharing.
Collages are an interactive Pin format composed of cutouts, allowing users to bring their ideas to life in a dynamic and engaging way. Since their introduction in 2023, collages have sparked a wave of fresh and exciting user-generated content on Pinterest, with users embracing collages as a new way to visualize, plan and shop ideas.
“Collages are Pinterest's most dynamic and interactive format, so we're excited to continue to scale and innovate in that area,” said David Temple, Head of Two Twenty, Pinterest’s in-house incubator that built collages. “We've seen great adoption as well. Collages are saved at significantly higher rates than other Pin types, and we're seeing that users, particularly Gen Z, love creating collages as a way to express themselves.”
Since the beginning of this year, the number of collages on Pinterest has increased by 418%.2 From planning outfits and building beauty routines, to creating aesthetic mood boards and designing their dream dorms, people are using collages to manifest their dreams, plan for their future and ultimately turn their inspiration into action. And many Pinterest users tell us that making collages is a fun and relaxing form of self expression.
Given all the positive buzz on social media with people showcasing their collages, we are introducing these new features to make it easier for Pinterest users to create collages and share them online.
Remixing makes it easier than ever to get started with collages. Now, when users make a collage, they can control whether other users can use it as a creative starting point. When remixing is enabled, users can build on existing collages and add their own personal spin, leveraging them as templates to help inspire and stretch their creativity—especially for users just getting started. We’re also seeing users, especially Gen Z, use remixing as a form of creative connection and communication.
Find a collage to remix: Need a little inspiration? Users can browse collages to remix by navigating to the Remix a collage card option in the collage tool. Users can also remix the collages they discover as they’re browsing Pinterest by tapping Remix in the bottom right corner of the collage.
Collaborate with others: When a user creates a remix, the original collage and creator will be tagged at the bottom. Remixes are always linked to the original collage and creator.
Manage your remix settings: Users can choose whether others can remix their collages by turning remixing on or off at any time.
People use collages to showcase their unique tastes and aesthetics. And now, we’re making it easier for users to share their collages with others. Whether showcasing their monthly mood board or an aesthetic style guide, users will be able to effortlessly turn their collages into rich, dynamic videos that they can download and share on social platforms.
