Pinterest has long served as an inspiration search engine for creatives. The platform is the first stop for many celebrity fashion stylists including Marni Senofonte – an avid Pinner – who starts every creative project with a secret Pinterest board. In collaboration with Pinterest, Marni is revealing today the curated board behind her client’s Met Gala looks.
Pinterest Board Drops offer people on Pinterest a deep dive into the creative process through the eyes of the creator. Marni’s board gives Pinners an inside look into her discovery journey, how she goes from inspiration to realization and how far and wide inspiration can strike.
The Met Gala is the annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute organized and presided over by Anna Wintour since 1995. Given this year’s theme is focused on Karl Lagerfeld, Marni took inspiration from her client’s history and experience as one of Karl’s favorite models. As her client once had the honor of being a bride for the designer, Marni saved several CHANEL wedding gowns in building out the inspiration behind one of her final look options.
“I often use Pinterest for my creative projects as I’m very intentional about the looks I create,” said Marni Senofonte. “With this being my fifth Met Gala with Kendall Jenner, and the theme being “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” it was all very personal. I used Pinterest to pull inspiration from every aspect of Karl’s life, from his homes, hobbies, the cars he drove to his collections of fans, gloves, ascots and jewelry. I even delved into his personal relationships. I had a vision in mind and Pinterest for me was the perfect creative companion —opening my eyes to things I wasn’t even looking for! We found ourselves considering silhouettes I’d never done with Kendall before. Pinterest always seems to unlock the creative boundaries and I think you’ll see that reflected in the final look — everything is unexpected, very worthy of Karl.”
